Anthony Swofford - He is the main character and the story-teller in Jarhead. Served in the Marines during the Gulf War. He suspects that his girlfriend is cheating on him and this upsets him even though he has already talked about having sex with multiple prostitutes. Anthony also contemplates killing himself but right before he could Troy walked in and made him stop. During section 2 of our reading, Swofford decides he wants to be a scout-sniper because he wants to try something different and actually do something in the Marines.
Kristina - Not in any scenes but is talked about. She lives in Sacramento and is Anthony's grilfriend. She plays a significant role in his life and influences how Anthony feels and his outlook on life. Unfortunately, it is believed that she is cheating on him.
Troy - He walks in when Anthony is about to blow his brains out and stops him. He then convinces him that it is not worth it no matter what it is about. He was from Michigan and in the chapter he saves Swofford, he dies. Troy was driving to work and his truck hit a patch of black ice and he was killed. Could have been something more in the Marines but got busted for drugs.
Drill Instructor Burke - Appointed Anthony the position of scribe. Expects perfection of everyone and literally hits and beats up his soldiers. Gets tranferred because of this. He influenced Anthony to be tough and to do as he is told.
Kuehn - Basically Anthony's best friend. He is also a scout-sniper. Kuehn is from Texas and many of the people around him there think he needs to be straightened out. He gets violated on the football field while wearing the gas suit and mask. (They had a heated political debate =) ).
DREW AND STEVE WORKED ON THIS IN CLASS. Drew does not know his password so that is why we are working together off mine. He could use some help.
